How does your service work, and do you charge a fee?

Our company provides a variety of services to corporate/government, small/medium business, and residential users interested in getting rid of their used IT equipment. First and foremost, our company needs to understand the reason which you are getting rid of your equipment, which will then help us to establish if there’s any value in the equipment to us. Did you purchase new equipment, so are getting rid of the old? Did the equipment stop working? If we determine that there is value in the equipment, we can offer to purchase the equipment from your organization and at no cost to you can offer to manage the packing, pickup, and transportation process back to one of our sorting facilities. If we determine there is no value in the equipment to us, we may be able to pick it up at no charge to you, or worst-case scenario would offer to pick up your equipment for a very small fee and can recycle it. » learn more about the services we provide

What areas do you provide service in?

Salma Systems operates out of our corporate headquarters and primary processing facility which is located in Coconut Creek, Florida, which is just about 20 minutes north of Fort Lauderdale. We offer nationwide purchasing and pickup services for large corporate and government accounts looking to get rid of volume quantities of unwanted IT equipment, and offer the same services to smaller and medium-sized organizations which are located near any of our other three locations strategically located along the east coast. » contact us for more information

What items do you accept, and what items do you pay money for?

View our acceptable items list for a summary of equipment which we do and do not accept for recycling. We purchase business-class functional, newer-aged used IT equipment and also surplus new equipment in volume quantities.

What happens with the equipment you receive?

Due to the overwhelming energy costs associated with “recycling” equipment, the amount of energy expended in the recycling process often can outweigh the actual environmental benefits. Because of this, our company first and foremost strives to refurbish any piece of used IT equipment which holds a secondary market value, not only extending the life of the equipment but also making computers, servers, and other equipment available at discounted rates to those who otherwise would not be able to afford brand new equipment. We donate some of the used IT equipment we receive to a variety of 501 (c)(3) charitable organizations which we have ongoing partnerships with. Equipment which we receive which is not functional, and is unable to be repaired, will be sent to one of our recycling partners who then can separate the equipment down into individual materials and process it further. » learn more by viewing our Mission Statement

Can I/we donate used IT equipment to you, and is it tax deductible?

We are not ourselves a 501(c)(3) organization, so donations to us are not tax deductible; however, there are a variety of 501(c)(3) organizations which work closely with Salma Systems on a regular basis. Particularly, since some of the charitable organizations we work with lack the technical capabilities to refurbish equipment properly, and with our company being an active Microsoft Registered Refurbisher, we can refurbish equipment and provide it to such organizations when our supply is a match to their needs.  If your organization has further questions regarding this, we welcome you to contact us and we may be able to advise you of a non-profit we are partnered with which can accept your equipment.

What does it mean that you have a “zero-landfill” policy?

It is a belief of our company that no unwanted IT equipment should be sent to landfills when there are people around the world who would be thrilled to have an opportunity to have a computer, regardless of how old it may be. Equipment which comes to us is refurbished and resold, or will be sent to one of our recycling partners for further dismantling. » learn more about the recycling process

What do you do about sensitive data?

Salma Systems offers data destruction services to organizations looking to completely sanitize the data contained on their hard drives. Our data destruction services start at less than a hundred dollars, and can increase depending upon the quantity of drives needed to be wiped.

How do you guarantee the security of data once you’ve completed the DoD Wipe process?

For customers purchasing our DoD Wipe services, upon completion of the data destruction process we will certify eradication of your organization’s data via a signed Certificate of Destruction. Our Certificate of Destruction outlines the variety of government mandates our destruction process is compliant with.

We have equipment still on desks. Do we need to pack it ourselves, or can you help with that?

Our company can manage the beginning to end process for your organization in getting rid of your unwanted IT equipment, including the unplugging of equipment from desks, packing, and all applicable logistics associated with removal. » learn more about our pickup services

What certifications do you have that establish your company as handling used IT equipment in an appropriate way?

There are a variety of certifications available worldwide which establish a number of various programs which recognize companies for their achievements in the electronics recycling industry. Our company participates in a number of programs, but it is important for organizations to understand that at present, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) does not have a set, national list of guidelines which must be followed, and as such no company is sponsored or endorsed by the federal EPA, so our company has taken the initiative to indicate our interest in providing responsible environmental solutions by participating in the following programs and memberships:

  • EPA Waste-Wise Program
  • Florida Department of Environmental Protection, Handler of Hazardous Materials
  • Microsoft Registered Refurbisher
  • Dell Partner

Each month, our company helps to prevent over 100,000 pounds of hazardous eWaste from polluting the planet’s landfills. We welcome you to participate in this process.
