Computer Recycle

Computer Recycle

Let’s underestimate for a moment.
Computer Recycle
There are over 300 million people in the United States. Let’s suppose that 100 million of us own computers. And each year, about 1/3 (or 33 million) of us replace our computers. That’s 33 million new computers purchased in the United States every year. Wow. That’s over 90,000 computers per day.

What happens to all those used computers?
Many of them get donated or resold. Still others are stored in closets and under desks. Only about 10% of unusable computers are properly recycled, the rest end up in landfills! Several laws have been enacted by state and federal government agencies outlining best practices for disposing of electronic equipment. Even with these laws, hazardous e-waste ends up in landfills all over the planet.

Salma Systems Recycles Responsibly
Salma Systems, LLC contracts with recycling partners who follow stringent environmental and health policies. These contractors employ processes which reclaim the most heavy metals and toxins from the electronic items sent to them for recycling.

Let Salma Systems, LLC assist with your company’s computer recycle needs. Together we’ll work to keep functional IT equipment out of the landfill and to make sure non-functional equipment is handled responsibly, limiting your company’s liability and doing the right thing for our global community and our planet.

Federal laws and how they impact the computer recycle industry:

  • The Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) bans all open dumping of toxic waste. This includes electronic equipment such as CRT (Cathode Ray Tube) monitors which each contain up to 5 pounds of lead.
  • The Comprehensive Environmental Response Compensation and Liability Act (CERCL aka the Superfund law) states that the generator of a hazardous waste material is liable for proper disposal throughout the life of the item, even if ownership has changed hands. Salma Systems, LLC will provide you with transfer of ownership documentation, remove your company-identifying labels, and properly dispose of your end-of-life IT equipment.
  • Three data-theft laws: Sarbanes-Oxley act (SOX) (identity theft and data security), The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) (health data), the Gramm Leach Biley Act (GLB) (financial).
Because your company computers may contain sensitive personal, company and client information, Salma Systems offers DoD data “wipe” and degaussing services to ensure that confidential information can never again be accessed on your old hard drives.

Contact Salma Systems today for a no-obligation quote to assist your company with computer recycle processes.
