Hard Drive Shredding
Did you know that even after reformatting a hard drive, echoes of wiped information remain and are accessible?
When you erase the file by reformatting, the space formerly occupied by the file is marked as being free, but really, the file data remains on the disk until the space is overwritten by some other file.
To be completely and totally sure that the data is unrecoverable, a hard drive should either be put through a DoD wipe to completely remove all sensitive data from it, or the hard drive should be destroyed.
